Hi

Hi
When will you deploy vista?
No plan to currently. Any new hardware coming with Vista will be downgraded to XP.
No plans to really. XP does everything the school needs it to. And I'm with Geoff- any hardware that comes with Vista will be downgraded.
:-)
Do you think this will be covered in the oem license as does xpOriginally Posted by Geoff

lieu of installing and using Microsoft Windows XP

(1) of the following versions: Microsoft(R)
Windows(R) 2000 Professional, Microsoft(R) Windows(R)
NT Workstation version 4.0 or Microsoft(R) Windows(R)
98 (Second Edition) ("Downgrade Software") on the
COMPUTER, provided (1) you agree that Downgrade
Software support will NOT be provided hereunder by
Manufacturer
Do you believe that XP will be classed as "downgrade software" in the same vein as Windows 98 SE is in that provided quote when a system comes with Vista?
..and it says "support" will not be provided for the downgraded software product used in lieu of XP Pro. Makes sense to me. If you want to use XP Pro rather than Vista (if the EULA is the same) then you can- the deal will be how long MS support XP after Vista is released. And that in turn will depend on how much software with the Vista label M$ sell when it is released.
I don't care about OEM licenses. I don't use them.Do you think this will be covered in the oem license as does xp
Wonder why they missed out ME hmmm???Originally Posted by kingswood

Do you get pc's without OS's on them Geoff?Originally Posted by Geoff
So- are we saying that it would *illegal* to downgrade a machine that comes preloaded with Vista to XP Pro? Is there any hard evidence from a Vista EULA that says this or anything we can read that is authoritative?
Blah. No wonder I am a Mac person. M$ shaft you sideways then want it both sides...
Here's an interesting take on it:
http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/or...225802,00.html
It mentions volume licensing customers typically having downgrade rights.
Either:Do you get pc's without OS's on them Geoff?
a) built from parts inhouse so nothing on them.
b) preloaded with an image provided to the manufacturer by me/LEA/etc
c) FreeDos.
Worse case senario is that we buy them with XP Home on (or it's vista equivelent).
Yeah, it's much better to be forced to buy a new machine for £3k when they update their OS

Apple? Is that who you are talking about?Originally Posted by Midget

We simply want to.
And the price argument is plain dumb.
Good day to you sir ;-)
