Angry Vista Folder Redirection via Group Policy

    Hi,

Having a few issues with Folder Redirection under Windows Vista.

Have got a group policy that has been used since Windows XP and works fine for that. Redirecting My Documents to Home Drive and Desktop / Start Menu to a single location according to group membership. As previosuly said this all works ok for XP.

When we login with a Windows Vista PC all the re-direction still works however we notcied that the "Favorite Links" section in Windows Explorer and the Save File Dialog lists a load of link such as Documents etc... These links then link to the local profile not the re-directed sections. I have attempted to redirect the Links folder using Folder Redirection but nothing seems to happen.

I also setup a login script to delete all the links from the Links folder upon login. Which works for Windows Explorer but in the standard file save dialog some still appear and in the Office 2007 one loads appear! Can't find where they are getting them from!. Also students can just click restore default links and it puts all the deleted ones back in!

Any ideas? Anyone got this working correctly or is there something i'm missing?

    Thanks,

Vista is has a lot more flexibility when it comes to what you can/can't redirect with profiles.

Are you still using the same redirection policy that you created for XP or have you created another one on a Vista machine?

I've been doing this just this morning (although with Windows 7 not Vista). Although i have been setting it up to redirect those folders to the user area (not sure if this is what you want to do)
Are you applying this policy to an ou of computers or users?
If it's computers you need to tell group policy to merge the policy to apply to users too.
    The setting is in:
Computer configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy

    Make sure that:
"User Group Policy loopback processing mode" is set to enabled and in "merge" mode.

That fixed the problem for me.
    Hope that helps

Managed to get it to work.

Was just me being silly! I had forgotten to disable the settings "Grant the user exclusive rights to Links" and "Move the contents of Links to the new location". Having no write access to the redirected folder the policy was failing.

    Many thanks anyway.
