Right here we go, I’m about to put the first Vista laptops on our network, the question is,
is there a way to change Vista's log on screen as so it is like XP?
Instead of two fields entering Domain\username then password.
To three fields of User Name then Password
then Domain like xp or 2000 ect.
Cheers for any help

15th July 2009, 08:14 AM #2 To the best of my knowledge - no there isn't
Microsoft pretty much scrapped the GINA with Vista
The only thing I think you can customise is the User's logon Picture - though never got this to work in a Domain environment
Though in Windows 7 you can change the logon background

16th July 2009, 07:19 AM #4 @SYNACK - Not sure if it is - depends on whether it creates a new file - or modifies the pre-existing one - if its the latter then yeah it'll be illegal and not recommended.
However, if its the former and a new file is created, leaving the original file behind then this should be ok
This was true for the MSGINA.DLL with XP

16th July 2009, 08:29 AM #6 isnt it only really a problem if you want to login to the local pc (where it just dosent show the name) or if you use administrator as a login which defaulty to local pc rather than domain (which is annoying on 08 boxes as why would i l.og in as a local user on a dc?)
iirc just typing in staffjs or 7jstead or whatever will log you into the domain same as xp you just dont have the dropdown
