Now then fellow Geeks
Just installed WAMP for first time on Vista Ultimate, installation went as it should, accepted all the defaults. The little WAMP icon on the task tray is white, not red or yellow. when i hover the mouse over it, it pops up a bubble saying WAMPSERVER -server offline.
Just for fun I've:
1. Restarted the WAMP services
2.turned the vista firewall off and restarted the services
3. restarted the machine
4. Drank a mug of PG tips tea
5. played with my rubiks cube
any suggestion?
cheers
PS never had problems installing/operating WAMP on XP pro SP2 machine
The google opinion seems to be that they should work together.... Are you sure you've got the latest version? (2.0).
Otherwise it could be UAC? If wamp installs apache as a service you could look under the services and see if you can force it to run?
Otherwise might be worth trying xampp to see what happens - apache friends - xampp
i had this problem too.
it was working though,
have you tried browsing to local host?
i think i found a php config or something and edited it so the meter worked correctly.
i will post again when my wife gets off the other laptop and i can find what i did
BoX
never noticed this before, but thats because i have never had to do it.
click 'Put Online'
so although the services were started i still needed to do that.
cheers Jona

I found that I had to change the port from 80 to 8080 in the http.conf file, even though there was no other web server on my PC
This then allowed WAMP (Vista Ent)

Yeah thats it look for a line called
and change it to#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80
Then restart WAMP#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 8080
nope didnt work
even tried xamp and thats doing the same thing.
would be great if it just gave me something to work from
How about Apache2Triad Net
if the service is starting correctly it sounds like a port / firewall / configuration issue. If not check your Application event log for a more useful error message.
Try binding to port 81 or 8080 as above and disabling any proxies and/or adding localhost to your list of exceptions.
Cheers

from my experience WAMP didn't work no matter how much I tried on vista. While it worked fine on XP on the same PC/network. Be intresting to know if you got it to work. Sorry im no help!
I run it fine on both vista 32 and vista 64. I have had similar issues as you describe which were due to other software interfering with port 80 (sky anytime)
I run it as administrator btw.
hey, just had the same problem and thought I'd be nice and post the fix that worked for me.
as above poster suggested I closed skype and now wamp works fine.
