We have had the offer from one of our experienced and damn handy ICT Teachers to put Vista on his laptop for a week or two to see what it can do.
Has anyone else actually tried it as a live release with staff yet?

Not with the main stream staff, I have tried it on a machine on my desk, and as it was not the December release it was not that good, still no full network support in the version I used, the ISA server would sulk with IE7 for some reasons despite authenticating against it as a full domain admin account, seemed ok for the work etc, but I think we are going to have a fun time re-educating staff and students about how it works, how to find things etc....
Whats the forums view for how soon it will be here in the summer and how soon you will deploy to the main IT suites?
We were looking and discussing the other day, as we can image our IT suites in 1 day using RIS, we could leave it fairly late in the summer if it came, and we had the right time to test it before, or are people planning on leaving it till Christmas (assuming a Aug / Sept launch) or maybe 6 months after launch?? We would stage it in, start with IT suites as they are the newest machines, so should run it with no issues, then work back out to the small IT areas, then individual rooms etc.... But so long as it works with RIS / its own new deplotment tools then we should be able to deploy set images out fairly rapidly this time!
How can we get hold of a beta of Vista?
I got a copy with my technet subscription (from schools agreement). Although it wasn't the lastest release, as I think you will need msdn access for that.Originally Posted by adamyoung
I hope it was an early beta, it was a bit naff :P
I remember trialling Vista in my previous job - where i had full MSDN access - was impressed with it till i installed the NIC drivers IIRC - and then it blue-screened on me
Also liked how msconfig was missing along with add/remove windows components
This was back in October, so don't know what changes have been in the newer releases since I dont have access to it anymore![]()
