Are there group policy templates that will allow me to control VIsta (and all of its new features) under Windows Server 2003 R2. Have trouble atm as Server 03 isn;t supporting .admx files.
Cheers

I don’t think there is, you will have to wait until Windows server 2008. Most group policies that are used in XP work in Vista though so you could try them.

You need Server 2008 or Vista to administer the ADMX files.
in order to sort out vista:-
1- apply for shotgun licence
2- purchase shotgun
3 load shotgun
4 point at vystur operating atrocity ( cannot call it a 'system ')
5 pull trigger
works every time
I like Vista at home.
i like visturd in the box ( and leave it there )

You administer Vista polices from the MMC (on a Vista client), until Server 2008 arrives. I am guessing *.admx files are time stamped like *.adm files, so they "should" automatically be applied. I can't say for sure as I haven't played with Vista in a domain as yet.
Another example is if you were running 2000 Server and XP SP2 clients. You can only administer the XP Firewall policies from the MMC (on an XP client). If you were running 2003 Server, you can administer XP's Firewall policies on the server. Hope this makes sense.
Ideally (and for simplicity), waiting for Windows Server 2008 which is due out in February '08 would be highly recommended.
Install Group Policy Management thing on a Vista Machine and use this to edit the Policy..until windows 2008..I think Vista still applies the old adm polices i'll try and find the link.
Surely you can just load the appropriate .adm onto the server just like you would import the XP SP2 .adm's to manage the SP2 features on a 2k3/2k server the same goes for the IE7 adm.

Nope as Vista uses ADMX's not ADMs im afraid cookieOriginally Posted by cookie_monster
As Vista can read current .adms i was thinking that there might be some more upto date ones but i see now that that they're just making sure you need to upgrade by not providing a GPMC that will read admx files and run on 2k3.
