I rebuilt one of my Hyper-V servers today. just to let you know worked well i simply imported the VMs after i reinstalled the OS and they came straight in no problems (as they were on a different drive) just point to the Config folder and i could pick the VM No Problemo...
i was using Hyper-V 2008R2 before.
Yer 2012 seems very good
Have you used the integration disc to update the virtual servers? Your best to, word or wise through it updates your nic card(s) driver, so your need to type back in your networking settings.
I upgraded all our hosts and most of the virtual servers now (clean install of course) just two virtual server I can't touch, TMG2010 and Exchange 2010, they will not install and is unsupported. Just 2 virtual servers left for us, WDS, which instead im gonna try out MDT with it this time and Remote Desktop Gateway. Also Physical wise, one DPM Server, 2 RDS Hosts.
Im going to rebuild my 'desktop' (6core 16gb testbench machine) currently running 2008r2 datacenter with desktop experience, and put 2012 on it and run windows8 in a VM as my day to day OS. Just bought a nice 250gb SSD for the OS drive as well.
Actually forgot something, I did have a major problem, if your use a cluster, you will have to build a new one, because the 2012 cluster cannot work with 2008R2 cluster or below, it will fail to connect to the existing cluster if you try!
So that may cause major problems depending how many hosts you use!
I am in a situation with my 2008 R2 hyper V failover cluster. Where I am thinking of moving to VMware or waiting to upgrade to 2012. I have found dynamic memory to be awful on hyper-v. Also failover is not always as seemless as I would like.
Is it worth waiting to play with 2012?

Failover and dynamic memory work great in all of the setups I have seen. What sort of problems do you have with Dynamic memory? What issues are you having with failover?Quote:

I have found a lot of my VMS are getting warnings on Dynamic Memory. I have MPIO setup and failover just can be a pain when it comes to downing a VM host it can get stuck.

you get a warning when they demand more than is available.
Increase the upper level available and the warning should go away.
Done that and it happens on all my VMs on one host. To be honest after doing some research I think I am going to stick with Hyper v and rebuild my setup to 2012 next year.Quote:
