    Server 2012 DC

    Morning

Have setup a server 2012 with the plan to add it to the domain as a DC. In the past (2003/2008) you had to make sure that the server was not a member of the domain before joining it as a DC, is this still the case with 2012?

Only asking as I would like to update the server first via WSUS before making it a DC.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    It doesn't matter either way.

Remember to run adprep etc before you make it a DC.

    Thanks for that......

This is going to sound a little dense now...adprep? My domain is already at 2003 both Functional and Forest.......I didnt think i needed to do anything else?

    1. Don't use 2012 - use 2012R2 - if you're doing the work, you may as well do it with the newer and better version if possible.
    2. You will need to update your schema, which is what adprep will do. Nothing to do with the Functional Level (though you should try to push that onwards soon - you're missing out on a number of good features)

This will get you started - Running Adprep.exe

    You will need to run
    • adprep /forestprep
    • adprep /domainprep
    • adprep /rodcprep
