Anyone upgraded from 2012 to 2012 R2 yet?

Looking at doing it this week or next.

Just wondering if anyone has done it already, does it support the Office 2010 KMS patch? (I haven't found much concrete info googling yet)

Is anyone using DHCP Failover and upgraded without breaking the relationship?

I too am tempted with the extra features of R2, but am hesitant to make the jump in case it breaks something major....
Just got our new, Fully Virtualised 2012, Servers installed over Summer Hols

Waiting for esxi 5.5 support from either nakivo or backup exec so i can have vmware support for it before i start upgrading to 2012r2.

Is Server 2012 R2 a supported OS on ESXi? I didn't see it on the OS list on my 5.5 when i upgraded.

I thought it was but maybe not? I'm still on 5.1u1 until my backup systems support 5.5. That said....im considering the switch to hyper-v 2012r2, only actually works out about 400 extra on our volume licensing compared to however much vmware is (which i need to check tomorrow) and the features seem pretty evenly matched now.

vmwares still quicker and more refined but the savings and speed ms are improving hyper-v is ompressing me.

saying all that im looking at ditching backup exec in favour of DPM too so i could be aiming for a 100% system center site at this rate

EDIT: oh that's annoying, when i post from my phone the thread doesn't go into my subscribed threads

EDIT2: so much for the hyper-v plan. Currently using virtual appliances for nakivo and aruba clearpass...clearpass doesn't support anything except vmware Also got a VA for foldr soon and I'm not sure that has anyhting but vmware support. Maybe one to look at in the future though i suppose.

    VMware Compatibility Guide: System Search

According to the VMware site it is... (5.1 too).

Yes, DHCP Failover is in 2012. It's not instant failover (maybe you can set it like that?) > Ensuring High Availability of DHCP using Windows Server 2012 DHCP Failover - Microsoft Windows DHCP Team Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

Ah didn't realise it was supported in 5.1, I assume we just select 2012 server for 2012R2 installs then, as there's no separate option in the OS list?

Quite keen on the web application proxy feature and will be playing around with the business skydrive uber thingy

Quite a way off any big roll out though.

Yes its not instant failover but works very well and much better than 70/30 or 50/50 split scopes between server. You also get the added powershell commands

Download Microsoft Office 2010 KMS Host License Pack from Official Microsoft Download Center

This version of the Office 2010 KMS Host works (the one in VLSC does not). Once installed, dlv d[...] shows

    Remaining App rearm count: -1
    Remaining SKU rearm count: -1
But the rest of the dlv output looks correct and when I threw a room of machines with office 2010 on at it, they all re-licensed happily (according to VAMT)

Some extra info here on the SKU/app thingy which I don't know what it is > Office 2010 License Pack on KMS

I'll post back on Monday what happens with the upgrade of an actual DC in DHCP failover mode though.

I'm struggling to see what the difference is between this and DHCP with Conflict Detection enabled? If one DHCP Server isn't available, the other online server gives it an IP. I've had this setup for years since Server 2003.

I just upgraded one of DC's and it seem to work ok with the over the top upgrade, just remember to do adprep first.

Just upgraded to 2012 R2 because of the Windows 8.1. GPO objects, plus it was quite easy. Had to upgrade System Center to 2012 R2 too, which I'm rolling out to the site servers at our primaries at the moment. Server 2012 R2 will be rolled out after that upgrade has finished to help support Windows 8.1.

The DC hosted at the high school for the cluster network (currently just runs the primaries) is a virtual server in hyper-v on a 2008 R2 CC4 server
