    2008 to 2012 inplace upgrade

    Morning all,

Silly question, but will doing a 2008 to 2012 upgrade take any services out during upgrade, or is it smart enough to do it along side normal workings?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Depends if you class the multiple reboots as normal workings.

When we upgraded one of our member servers last holiday it was unavailable for around 30 minutes during the installs.

Just to point out that 2008 32bit can be upgraded to 2012, it's a fresh install (08 64bit and 08R2 are both fine).

is it server 2008 or 2008R2? If it's not R2 and if its only 32 bit (you can get 64bit 2008) then you can't do it as 2012 is only 64 bit!

Aside from that you are probably looking at an hour or so down time. I wouldnt suggest ever trying to do this on a live system with live users though! I'm sure it would go smoothly however if it throws up a problem then it will give ou a bad headache!!
