Printing Preferences Works! YAY! and Huge GOTYA!
OK over this half term we had 8 new printers, I thought this was a good time to retire my 2003 printer server (even though it's rock solid) I built a new 2012 server added drivers and thought I'd give GPP printer deployment a shot again as I could never get it to work with my old server.
YAY! it deployed printers and collected the drivers for the correct OS (32 and 64bit) I thought this was so good I could also add it too all staff as well (as I now have item level targeting).
Any quick person may see the danger straight away but I didn't not until this morning... So first order of business is to remove all the old shared printers that point to the old printers and the old server... DELETE ALL PRINTERS, (Runonce) Then add all the new printers blah blah blah. Anyhow this worked great (there was a sharp driver issue but this is another story)
This morning the server has stopped working corrupt spooler? anyhow my printers are all gone ooop now there they are.. they look wrong?.... thinking thinking thinking ....
Anyhow lesson learned...

i suspect he appliedn the delete all printers policy to him as a user or the server as a pc

Yes... ALL STAFF. INC me when I'd left myself logged into the printer server.. POW all "shared printers deleted" then added the shares back to the print server = no usable printers for anyone on the first day back... egg on my face.
