    Why the rubbish desktop?

Why have M$ decided to make the server 2012 o/s look like a phone?
I found it quaint that they have a ModemLogs directory. I haven't seen a modem attached to a server for years. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a modem in use for years!

People who use RDS will need the GUI...

Anyway use server core with the RSAT tools...

Thats going to be the future. It wont be long before it's the only option, a GUI-less Server OS.

Which makes no sense. The resources required to drive a GUI is practically nothing. I could understand removing the GUI in the 80s/90s but not now.

Doesn't 2012 offer that feature now? Think I read somewhere that it can be uninstalled.

Given that RDS is at the core of Citrix (a key Microsoft partner) XenApp I highly doubt it...

Indeed. AOL makes most of its money from dial-up subscribers (almost $160 million!). Without them, they would probably go bankrupt.

for which you need windows 8, which is just as bad if your not a fan of the nonsense. I've seen one suggestion of publishing various admin tools as remoteapps, and then accessing them from the start menu of a windows 7 host, but it's just more minutes wasted when all your trying to do is be productive from the get-go.
