Exchange 2007 - Setting up mobile access to email

Afternoon all,

Wasn't sure where to put this, but here goes.

I want to set up our Exchange box (Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008) to allow some of our more mobile users access to their email through a portable device, smartphone/tablet etc (we do already have OWA in place, however I want to give them an easier experience).

I've done some googling but don't seem to be making much progress. Anyone got a link to a decent guide on how to achieve this?

Outlook Web Access already takes care of this and the devices just need pointing at it.

Like through Activesync or one of the lesser protocols (imap, Pop3)?

I'm not that bothered on the method to be honest......

I'e looked at pop3, imap and exchange activsync and I haven't been able to get any of them to work.

If OWA is running Activesync probably is too, you may just need to enable it for users if you have disabled it and add in some extra redirects. Are you running an ISA/TMG server?

Hi Iain, if your going through stockport then its a no go!

I wanted to go the same for my head and because the way the LA do things - pop, imap cannot be reversed NAT'd

So looks like you will e stuck with OWA access only.

There is a wizard you can run in isa to publish an outlook server then select the activesync role and point it to your owa server.

It runs over https and is the best method anyhow and will make it through the firewall like owa

Thanks Mark.....i'm quite stunned that this didn't enter my head as to why it doesn't work......why do they restrict us so much!! Oh to be able to breakaway!!!

We've got it set up okay here Iain. We just use OWA details to setup email on each phone / tablet so don't need POP3 or IMAP, or set up any extra ISA rules. Balckberrys don't work as we havn't got Enterprise Manager but managed iPhones, iPads, Android and Nokia so far.

Here's an example iphone setup,

Server: OWA web address
Domain: Local Domain
Username: Username
Password: Password
Use SSL: On
