I'm in the process of trying to build a new domain by the summer (something that is creaping up rapidly!)... I'm just about to prepare an order for OS licence and System Center bits but I was wondering what bits of System Center people find useful in schools. I know I want VMM and Config Manager 2007 R2 but other than that All I can think I need atm is the bit with App-V but I get confused to what I need and what product does what (and even what products there are).
We are planning to roll out Systems Center Config Manager during the summer. It's main focus will be for OS deployment and remote software installation. Installation of software is done using BITS which means we can push software out to our laptops over wireless without interupting their use.
It is also quite a complicated beast. I've sent one of my staff on a 5 day course for Config Manager and he came back to say that 5 days isn't enough to cover everything in the product.
App-V is covered by the Desktop Optimization Pack which is included as part of Software Assurance. Software Assurance comes with a Schools Agreement and some of the other licensing agreements. Not sure if you can purchase it seperately.
