Hi,
In Windows Server 2008 i have set a computer preference in group policy where a VBS script is copied to a local machine. On the policy i set it so it updates. Doing this it will update existing files and if the file isn’t there it will copy it over from the server. The file is being copied fine but when i have made changes to the script it does not update on the clients. Other group policies are being applied fine but is one isn’t playing. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Have you made sure you have preference items installed (via WSUS or otherwise) on your clients?
On preference settings I usually find the "replace" option works better in these cases :D
Yep corse it wouldn't have copied if not. The problem with replace is that if the file doesn't exist it won't create.
Have you checked through the event log on the machines in question and have you looked as the RSoP tools to see if it can has anything useful to report?
Have you tried it? I've used replace to "replace" a flash settings file - worked fine for one that existed and fine for a new build (eg, where the file didn't exist, it copies it anyway).Quote:

'Replace' should have given you the functionality you're after. Odd too that nothing is in the event log as I often find that GPP has event log diarrhoea and logs things I couldn't care less about (example: couldn't find a file that was set to 'Delete'. Of course you bloody couldn't, you deleted it on the last GP update!)
Anyway, to get some more diagnostic logging you can turn on Userenv debug logging.
One other suggestion is that perhaps the GPP extension does not detect when the contents of the source file has changed and so think it does not need to reapply the preference item as the destination file is the same as last time it checked. If you rename the source file and update the preference to reflect the new name, will it then replace the destination file correctly?
