Sharing Shared Printers

So the time has come to rebuild our print server as our ex-current print server took a dive in the night and won't be making a reappearance...

On the old print server, we have all of the IP printers set up with their IP as the port and then shared as roomnumber.
There are some printers on site which are not IP Printers and these were shared on the machine that they were connected to, then shared on the print server - and everyone would print to them via the print server.
So if CLASS1-TEACHER has a usb 1320(non n model) plugged in, this would be shared firstly on the CLASS1-TEACHER and then added to the print server with \\CLASS1-TEACHER\printer as the port.
Clients would then connect to \\printserver\class1 to print to this printer.

Clients are XP, server is 2008 standard 32 bit (although I did try 2003 with the same issue).

If I go to the print server I can print to this printer without an issue (watch the job go through the print servers queue, then watch the job go through CLASS1-TEACHERS queue and then print)
However if I connect to \\printserver\class1 and print from another machine on the network, I can watch the job hit the print server and then fail.

I'm sure this is something so obvious, I've hit a dead end - so any suggestions would be welcome.

Well I never knew you could reshare shared printers, it never used to be possible.

Are you sure the security is set right ?
Are you sure you have all the right drivers on all three machines ?

Is there anything in the event log on any of the machines ?

I'd try permissions on the teachers PC. Personally I hate PC based shared printers, they always cause issues with the PC that they are installed on and I managed to remove all of them from my site. :-)

If you install the LPD Service feature and enable it on the class PC with the printer you can then create a local printer on the Print server and setup an LPR port pointing to the class PC. You can then share this like you would any other network printer.
