Is there a way of creating/enforcing a max file size limit within a folder in windows 2008 either by a builtin tool or a third party one?

The builtin tool (FSRM) cannot do this.... anyone know a thirdparty tool ? Perhaps you can do this on SAN level ?

If its a network share then you can put it on a dedicated partition of the size you desire.

Not natively but you could create a report in FSRM that would alert you to files over a certain size.

(Just done the 6419B course - without previous server experience - so I could be talking out of my backside, let me know by thanking my post )

    Quota Template?

Make sure FSRM role service is installed: - File Server Resource Manager (role service)

File Server Resource Manager console > Quota Templates node
Set a hard limit on the file size you want.

Put it on a SAMBA share and use quota to limit file sizes. SAMBA has much more functionality for serving windows shares than windows does.
