We won't be, everything is running smoothly on 2 domains across 10 windows 2k3 servers.

We just don't feel a need for it.

What are your reasons for upgrading or not?

A few reasons, we have one or two machines with Vista so we would like to lock them down. We can cut down allot of ours scripts with the extra functionally of server 2008. Also a little experience with 2008 and we are having a few problems with a domain controller (wont contact the parent domain) so thinking of upgrading while it is being fixed.

we are upgrading our 2 other servers from 2000 to bring them up to 2003 , which only one of ours is at the minute. We will be retiring the NT4 server :P

2008 is a long way off I reckon

We're already running a couple of 2k8 member servers, we'll be implementing a couple 2k8 DC's over this summer as 2 of our DC's will be retired.

Why are we running 2k8? Increased security, Hyper-V, to a lesser extend power consumption (2k8 over 2k3), terminal services & remote apps, and of course lets not forget experience (just in case...)

We are just about to upgrade from Server 2000 to Server 2003. So if all goes well maybe 2008 will be the mission next summer!

We will be upgrading from S2K to S2K8. Mainly because of increased security, increased functionality and the fact that there really is no point in going to S2K3 with mainstream support ending in 2010 and extended ending in 2015.
The feeling was that we might as well skip S2k3.
Another push for S2k8 was the end of OEM and retail license availabilty of XP this year and system builder licensing ending next year.
It all means that Vista is on its way in to our networks.

You might consider RHEL 5 if power consumption is important to you:

Red Hat Linux trumps Microsoft Windows in power test

But I agree- increased security, HyperV and TS are just three great reasons to run Server 2008. However, the investment our school has made in Windows XP and Server 2003 as well as Apple technologies means that Server 2008 isn't that much of a deal right now. Perhaps when Windows 7 appears....

We thought about doing our DC's but don't want to have to rebuy CALs for our workstations.

No reason to this year. System is stable on 2k3, not planning to add any more PCs... no point in fixing something that ain't broke (crosses fingers, toes, etc... touches wood and prays!)

There is no critical feature that 1) warrants the upgrade process in general and 2) warrants the upgrade of every cal to a 2008 license.

2003(r2) has run perfectly since we introduced a pure 2k3 environment over 3 years ago so why "fix what aint broke"?

Edit: Exsact same reason as elsiegee40! Even same cliches

2008 Sever is still very new and I'm only just starting to roll out XP SP3 clients. To be honest though, they work absolutely fine with 2003 Server. Server application compatibility such as Sims or CMIS as well as other tools I use would also have to be tested.

"Upgrading"? I suppose, if we have to, we'll squeeze a couple of Windows 2008 VMs in on top of our pristine Linux-based network to act as a domain controller and print server, but that's it.

We recently purchased some CAL's through Ramesys for our upgrade to S2003interestingly from them they come as S2008 backwardly compatiable.
