    Server 2008 SP1

I have got a Server 2008 test domain. I notice that when I look at the computer details in AD it says Server 2008 SP 1. So have Microsoft released SP1 with server 2008 or is it a bug?

Microsoft named/branded Server 2008 as SP1 so it's at the same level as Vista SP1. It's not a bug, it's correct

indeed, the first service pack for 2008 will be sp2. Partly to stop people 'waiting until sp1 is stable'

It's just marketing. MSFT's greatest strength.

Since Vista & 2k8 share the same underlying code-base (quite surprising considering the performance of 2k8 compared to Vista!), the SP1 changes were rolled up into the original 2k8 release. So 2k8 is using the Vista SP1 code - hence the discrepancy.

...O, and it's a nice marketing ploy as well!

Yep it's the first time that the kernal has been the same for client and server since Windows 2K, back then you could apply the same SP to both products in theory the same should apply for 2008 SP2 but we'll see. Anyway as stated above the 2008/Vista kernel is at SP1 hence 2008 saying SP1.
