In DNS if you have multiple zones, e.g. - "Domain.local" "Domain.com" etc How do you configure DNS so hosts from each zone can ping hosts from a different zone without entering the FQDN? I understand you can add multiple DNS suffix's in DHCP option, but this isn't an option for me.
Gpo and domain suffix search order
Thanks. Did think of that, but the box isn't windows :)

Not sure exactly what your after, but for A DNS server to respond it has to know what is being asked for
if you have 4 domains
and ask DNS for host
how does it know if you want a response from a,b,c or e.
Yeah I understand it wouldnt know where to respond from, I just wasn't sure if there was an option in DNS for it to search all zones on the dns server for the host, but I guess not then.

If the two zones were in different domains, then a trust would be needed.
