Single Account Creation

We have just changed from RM CC3 network to a vanilla network. When we create new user, for new pupils at the school, we do it on an individual basis using the server manager. It is quite time consuming, setting up the account then making sure it is in the correct group, creating the home folder, setting permissions and shares then pointing the account to the folder.

I was just wondering how everyone else goes about this, I have looked at software like AD Infinitum, CSE User Manager, Wisesoft spreadsheet. What software do other people use? I don't really know how to use scripts so an easy to use front end is a must.

We just right click another user in the same group and click copy. Then type in their name,username/password and viola! It keeps the same groups and sets there profile/home folder according to the user you copied from (but it keeps the users profile/home docs unique for that user). Give it a try.

However for multiple users we use csv files that we export from SIMS

+1 just use the copy function! :)

*note you might have had to use the %username% variable in the home drive etc. in the one your copying from originally

Is there any way to automatically create the home drive?

We use Dovestones "Bulk Create for the big intakes - it comes with a little prog to create home folders with the correct security settings - quite useful.

Ahh thanks, yes I have that already but never actually taken the time to use it.

I did email the creator about a single account creation program and he replied saying he had one but never got back to me after that.

Maybe if some more people emailed him he would release the tool.

I just copy another user as well - it's pretty quick!

It should create it automatically for you.

If the permissions are set correct then it will create the home folder for you and their profile folder if required at first login as well.

Thats pretty cool.

I would still prefer a 3rd party tool I think rather than having to go into Ad each time.

I'm guessing you still have to create the exchange mailbox manually?

I've used ADInfinitum for many years at different establishments. As well as creating accounts, its great for making bulk changes and you can export info from it too - not bad for £200 ish.

What version of exchange are you using?
If 2003 then no its just an extra option at the end of the copying process
If 2007 then yes you still have to create in manually - so i believe
