Upgrading from 2003R2 .. Upgrade or Backup and Clean Install?
Good afternoon ..
So, the plans are all coming together for the summer upgrades programme here at my school (just me, 2 x 2003R2 servers, 80ish XP Pro machines, licenses for 2008R2 and Windows 7 Pro as well as Office 2010 and many other bits of stuff) and by the end of the summer I plan to have 2 x 2008R2 Servers, 80ish W7Pro Machines with all the relevant software installed ..
Now, looking at the GPO structure in my VM version of 2008, it all looks good, my question is upgrading the servers from 2003R2 to 2008R2 .. is it just good to upgrade them directly with the disks and stuff, or should I do clean installs and start again?
Of course, either way, there will be backups galore, but just looking for any horror stories and trips I should be aware of in the process if I go for a direct upgrade ..
Cheers all! :)
