I need to stop the little darlings moving the desktop icons around (usually into their own initials). They cannot add or remove icons, so the desktop is locked down in that respect, but I would like them fixed as well.
We currently run Server 2008 but we are upgrading to 2008R2 next week.
I have searched everywhere but cannot find a solution - can anyone point me in the right direction?
Use a redirected desktop and make the access read only

XPSP3Pro or Vista or Windows 7 or Ubuntu or any other including OSX hehe! ;)
Desktop is redirected - well, the whole user file 'student' in which the desktop resides is. And read only is ticked. But they can still move them about

You can't stop them moving them, but they should reset the moment they log off if you use mandatory profiles.
Easiest way to stop them moving desktop icons is not to give them desktop icons at all.
Yes, ahead of you there - just removed all icons except Internet Explorer and the recycle bin. Let them make their initials out of that!!Quote:

What about a shortcut on the desktop that launches a folder? This folder would then contain shortcuts to all those frequently used apps.
