Script to join new domain

Have set up a new virtual network based on server 2008 R2 in vmware

Have migrated user accounts and all is working well

Have set up trust between old and new domains

We are now ready to remove the fully serviced packed XP client machines from the old domain and then rejoin them to the new.

In the past I have just moved them off old domain into workgroup and then from workgroup into new domain

This time we have over 300 machines

Is there any easier way?

We really want to decomission the old domain when the new one is up and running

Can't say I've ever used it for this, but take a look at the netdom 'move' option. [That page refers to the 2K8 "built-in" one, but IIRC it's in 2k3 support tools - google will tell you]

Can be done using Netdom and a text file containing the computer names (one on each line) I have a working script somewhere and will try and dig it out. Was something like this below.

The computer name is stored in the variable %%i from the text file.

Not sure if it's too late, but Microsoft have an Active Directory Migration Toolkit which will do all of this for you - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Agreed. You will need to use latest version of the Active Directory Migration Tool version 3.2 - as ADMT 3.1 will not work on 2008-R2 DC's
