so ive trolled the internet looking for information regarding how to activate via KMS instead of MAK (which i am having to use at moment) i have found a how to thats pretty informatative but some of it doesent make sense to me.
I am running server 2008 r2, with windows 7 through my school, i understand that MAK keys give you 100 activations and when you have used them all you have to ring microsoft and get another key. ive also got 1 KMS key for windows 7 bought though 1 supplier and and server 2008 r2 KMS key thats different from ealier licencing.
what i dont get is which Key i use to activeate with KMS on my server, is it my KMS server 2008 r2 key? also do i have to re-activate my server with the KMS key instead of the MAK key that it is currently using? when i activate my windows 7 via KMS do i use my Windows 7 KMS key thats differenent than my Server 2008 R2 key?
i got most of my info from > http://ivan.dretvic.com/2011/06/how-...erver-2008-r2/
i think i have now figured this out. if you activate with a KMS key you can use slmgr /dlv and it will give you the details if it is a B or C key, if its B then you can activate Windows 7 via any KMS key within band B.
