    PHP timing out during Moodle upgrade

    Hi,

    I am trying to upgrade to Moodle 2. When i perform the upgrade PHP is timing out and giving me an error 500.

    I am using PHP 5.3.13 with fastCGI using the installer found at php.iis.net this on a Server 2008 R2 Enterprise server.

    Does anyone have any thoughts please?

    Thanks

    Seems obvious ... increase the timeout?

    Or run the PHP from the command line.

    I had an odd issue with wordpress a few weeks back where my menu structure had close to 100 items and my php would only process 60 and it will time out. I had to enable some odd module on PHP and up the memory it can access.

    I had to add this to my php.ini file

    suhosin.post.max_vars = 5000
    suhosin.request.max_vars = 5000
    The module to enable is suhosin. (never herd of it before...)

    It could always be the PHP memory limit.

  5. Thanks to Rozzer from:

    Not to someone who doesn't know a massive amount about it...

    You need to increase the following variables in php.ini

    max_execution_time = 360
    max_input_time = 360

    this will give the page 6 minutes to load.

    the following variables govern information sent to a page not how long the page can take to load.

    suhosin.post.max_vars = 5000
    suhosin.request.max_vars = 5000

    Suhosin is a hardening module for php. Shared hosting doesn't normally run it as you usually have to be aware of it to prevent issues as it can be a pain to setup.

    Tell me about it! Thankfully I have an internal Cpanel server so was easy to install.
