    Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 LTO-4 Tapes

    Hi

I'm a total noob when it comes to tapes. never had to use them but....

I have Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 on my 2008 R2 Server. Just installed the LTO 4 Tape Drive and bought 10 Tapes
How do I setup the tapes so I can use them for my backups.

I'm hoping to setup 2 weeks backup Monday to Friday only.

from what I can gather i need to do an inventory on my tapes?? I've done this and they don't seem to save the names and neither do they have barcodes when i do a scan on the tapes.

can anyone help me how to name the tapes and import them into my pool!?

    any help would be great

    Thanks

I've never used Acronis for an Enterprise backup solution, however I do believe that barcodes are optional (they have been on past backup software I've used).
As regarding setting up tapes I've never had to inventory them until I have allocated and set them up initially. Inventorying was always something I did when re-installing or moving the backup server where the backup software would scan the tape for it's identity and content.

TBH, tape, whilst still a valid backup medium, has been falling out of favour in recent years due to capacity, speed and reliability issues compared to HD based storage. If it wasn't for the fact tape can be easily removed to be stored/transported separately it would be be a lot deader than it is. Look at the fact that Microsoft provided no built-in tape support as of Server 2008 for proof of this.
