    Question WSUS Query

    Hello all,

I've spotted something odd in my WSUS console and I was wondering if anyone else has this same issue.

With every WSUS setup I have (separate sites/domains), the server where WSUS is installed displays the Link-local IPv6 Address instead of the IPv4 address. All other servers, workstations and notebooks display their IPv4 address correctly. I'm not using IPv6 at all at the moment and it's also disabled in DHCP server.

If you run ipconfig /all you'll find the Link-local IPv6 Address.

It's not a major problem, but I have one site still running 2003 R2 with WSUS 3.2.7600.226 and it displays the server IPv4 correctly.

It 'appears' to be happening only on 2008 R2. In all cases I'm running 2008 R2 with SP1 and it's all up-to-date, along with WSUS 3.2.7600.226.

I then thought that by default IPv6 is disabled on 2003 Server, but both IPv4 and IPv6 are enabled on network adapters in 2008 R2 by default. I then unticked IPv6 and ran wuauclt.exe /detectnow. The WSUS console which was displaying the Link-local IPv6 Address is now displaying ::1 which is the default DNS server when you look at IPv6 properties.

I'm not sure what exactly is going on here, but this is happening on all my 2008 R2 servers, so I can only presume it's normal behaviour. Any ideas/suggestions would be welcome

Yup, the same here is for me on my 2008 R2 server, even though IPv6 is disabled on the properties of the NIC. I, too, believe it's normal behaviour.

Thanks for confirming this. I still wonder why this is happening, although everything is working correctly so I can't complain!
