inheritable permissions for this objects' parent

I want staff to be able to view pupils areas (only read access) i have this working no problem last year on server 2003. We have now moved to server 2008r2 and the permissions set at the top level (intake2011) are not cascading down to the folders below (intake20011usersrea). The way i can get this working is to manually go to each user area and click 'Include inheritable permissions for this objects' parent'. But i do not want to do this 1200 times. Any help please?

Try on a set of test folders first but you might need something like this
Save the following as inherit.bat and replace the relevant server folder info

 FOR /r "tokens=*" %%G in ('dir /ad /s /b "\\server\share"') do icacls %%G /T /C /Grant {Your User or Group}:F(OI)

I have used the command
ICACLS "f:\Users\Intake2011\intake2001user" /inheritance:e
This works but it does not do multiple users at once
