Confusion - Two My Documents appear with documents redirection

    Hi - Me again..

Sorry for yet another new thread asking for help. Seems like i've asked for alot the last few days.
    I'm just a little confused.
I've set up my documents redirection as follows.

Advanced - Specify locations for various user groups
Target - Redirect to the users home directory

The redirection works fine. On the client PC if you click your name from the start menu two my documents appear. Is this how it's suppose to work? Seems odd to have two my documents. Bit confused over this.

Have you looked at their locations? Are they both pointing to the same place?

Oh! One is the user network home directory drive thats set up for my documents redirection and the other is the local profile my documents.
With document redirection on Windows 7 is this suppose to happen then or have I set something up incorrectly?

Maybe you can remove the local documents one so it only shows the redirected documents?

So....the local 'My documents' isn't being removed or hidden.
All I can think is that on our machine users dont have access to the C drive on the machine which means that the users cannot see anything including My Docs etc . Off the top of my head though, I cant think how it is done. I will look tomorrow or someone else will tell you the answer!

*edit: I think it is a Group policy Object - "
Hide these drives in My Computer"

Il try restricting access to the C: drive. I have that set up for students but not staff who get this problem. Cant really think of a reason why staff would need to be able to access the C: Drive, so it's worth a shot.

    EDIT

Hide/Restricting the C: Drive sort of works. The user still gets the two My documents folder ( The redirected and local one ) but they can no longer access the local one.
If this is common behaviour with Win7 documents redirection I'm happy to leave it like that. I just want to make sure this is how it's supposed to appear because to me it seems a bit strange to have two my documents folders and I’m thinking this could cause confusion for staff.
Is it possible to set a group policy that completely removes the local documents?

I set the folder redirection on the server like you would with any type of redirection, documents, desktop, start menu etc.
The document redirection adds the network home drive to the libraries. I'm confused why I see two my documents and wondering if I set something up wrong

iirc try setting your folder redirection options to
Move the contents of Documents to the new location enabled

That won't remove the local My Documents folder though, just the content, at least as far as I'm aware.

The way I solved this was simply to remove the users name from the Start Menu, and gave them a shortcut to My Documents on the desktop. Was far easier to do that as clicking on their name gives them all their local folders, and considering none of our staff have access to the C: drive, seemed pointless to me. Really easy to do as well as it's a Group Policy Setting....

User Config -> Policies -> Admin Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> Enable the setting "Remove user folder link from Start Menu"

    Job done
