Windows 7 Start menus not redirecting through GPO
Hi all,
We have migrated over to Win Server 2008 R2 and are imaging all of our PCs to windows 7. I am now trying to configure the start menus using a GP for students. I have changed the 'Start menu' folder redirection to '\\school\sysvol\school.city.sch.uk\Custom_Menu\Pu pils\Start Menu'. the group policy is applying on the Windows 7 machine (can see this through RSOP), but there is nothing in the start menu. We use Local profiles for our students (we will get round to changing this eventually but for now...) but can't imagine this would make a difference (it worked fine for XP!!). Has anybody any ideas what could be stopping the start menu showing?
Cheers
manick

2nd August 2011, 03:35 PM #2 Had this problem try this in group policy:
Policies > admin templates > Start menu and Taskbar > Remove Users Folders from the Start Menu
If you Disbale this policy (note not left uot configured) it should then work.
Let me know how you get on.

This is what fixed it when i had the same.
Thanks

2nd August 2011, 03:56 PM #5 A few possibilities, a long time ago i set it up now but off the top of my head possible problem policies:
Force classic start menu - disable this
remove all programs list from the start menu - this should be obvious but disable this
remove user's folders from the start menu - disable
I can't remember what others, but i think i remember those causing it not to redirect when moving from XP to 7

3rd August 2011, 08:13 AM #7 Others things to check would be folder and/or share permissions on the folder you're trying to direct them to. best way i found was to setup a DFSR and replicate your start menu redirections between DCs, and direct everyone to \\domain.local\Menus\Start Menu and \desktop for example, and when creating the share just set it up so that administrators have full access and all other users have read only.
Depends on where you have it stored and what you're aiming to achieve though i guess. What do you currently have set in your redirection settings?

Hi,
I have the current path set for the start menu redirection '\\school\sysvol\school.city.sch.uk\Custom_Menu\Pu pils\Start Menu' and authorised users have read & execute, read and list access.
Regards
