Backup Exec/Dell Powervault 124T - Need to run a manual full backup this afternoon...
Hi all,
Totally new to Backup Exec and Dell Powervault 124T and have noticed that our backups haven't been running correctly for a week now.
Before I start messing about with things I want to complete a full backup.
Have removed all tapes from Powervault apart from one (and the cleaning tape), but not sure what to do next.
I have inherited the system so don't want to mess things up......although currently its in a bad state anyway!
Is there an easy way to overide everything and get this backup completed?
Cheers
Simon

26th July 2010, 12:39 PM #3 As I assume that they were working fine up until last week, check what they were actually backing up along the lines of Dos_Box's post above. The Dell autoloader would have come with Backup Exec and there is the option within it to evaluate specific agents for up to 60 days so check that one of these hasn't expired.
Check the Job Histories as these are usually very good at telling you where the fault lies even if you aren't too sure how to resolve it.

The system backs up three servers.
Under 'Job Setup' it shows a job for each of the servers and the 'Job Method' is listed as full. Does that mean that they have configured it to run full backups every night? If you double click any one of those entries the schedule shows it as being active every night.
What confuses me is the Media Rotation policy (GFS) at the bottom of the screen lists a Daily Incremental, Weekly Full and Monthly Full.
Any ideas how this is possible?
All I know is that they have 21 tapes and load a different set of 7 each week, rotating the sets every week with one kept offsite.
Any of this make sense?
Cheers

Yes

They may have just amended built-in policies but then not used them.
Click on the Job Monitor tab and then double click on one of the failed jobs. This then makes the Job History and Job logs visible - click on the logs tab and this should give you more information including why the job is failing. The most common we have here is "corrupt data encountered" because the Head's PA doesn't close her Outlook before going home and it sees her pst files as corrupt.
