    Web-Based Active Directory Portal

    Good Evening All,

I would like to create a custom portal that, for starters, will allow us (Techies) to reset users passwords and unlock accounts etc. I have seen some tools online, but preferably I would like to be able to customise the interface etc. to suit our needs.

Have any of you done a similar thing? If so how have you done this? Could you please point me in the right direction in terms of scripting etc.

    Regards,

    Net-Eng99

You find the people under inventory , select the user. Your then given options to reset. the password disable/enable account .

I've had a look in the past but I'm looking for something with a simple UI. Something I can embed in to a custom web page, where we can search for a user by name or username and then reset the password or unlock their account.

Of course we will have to log in to this "portal" to authenticate.

    Have you looked at this

    http://www.manageengine.com/products...vice-password/

I use it only for password expiry notification via email as most of our staff ignore or miss the balloon popup.

We use a simple asp page on our intranet to allow us to reset users passwords

    Code:
    strDomain = "Blah.internal"

    Function SetPassword(strUser,strPassword)
    	Dim User
    	Set User = GetObject("WinNT://" & strDomain & "/" & strUser & ",user")
    	User.SetPassword(strPassword)
    	User.setinfo

    End Function

    Call SetPassword(request("id"),request("pwd"))
You can use the same style to unlock accounts as well.

NetWrix Password Manager does just what you want. Ours works great. It's cheap too.

Hmmm...that's not very secure. Simple, but wouldn't be hard to hack.

You could install System Centre Orchestrator and remotely call runbooks that carry out preset functions.

Resetting Passwords, Unlocking Accounts are definitely achievable, depends what else you'd need to be able to do.

The script is widely available on the net, since that's where we got it from originally. Obviously it also requires rights for the running user to be able to change the targets password, which only domain admins have by default so not really any more hackable than getting a admins username and password in the first place.

But it's one method to reset passwords.

True, except it looks like it would pass the password in the clear unless there is some encryption on the entire site and the connection from the Intranet to the AD server.

How do I go about setting this up from scratch in an ASP site? What else have you added in to your site?
