Tried iTalc a couple of years ago but gave up. I noticed that there was an update last Summer, anyone tried this?

Also be aware that iTalc is not a replacement for Impero it is replacement for one small part of Impero which is remote control. Also if need remote control only then do have the IRM product and as Jon mentioned in another thread next year also we are offering a standalone ‘classroom management’ system that we will be calling Impero Learning Manager.

Abtutor is great and very cheap at about £200 for a single admin license.

Holy monkeys. Just tried the latest iTalc, and it works very nicely.

The instructions are slightly outdated but its easy enough to figure out.

I'd love Impero have used it before but when I rang for quote it was far too expensive so SLT wouldn't go through with it

Ok here is what I did:

    1. Download latest version (2.0.1) and install on the machine you want to control other computers from, choosing the option to install the master machine.
    2. Open the management console and click on "Authentication" -> "Launch key file assistant" -> "Next" -> "Create new access key" -> select "Administrator" -> Next -> Enter a path to export the public key -> Next -> Finish.
    3. Click "Manage permissions" and add your user account to the permissions list.
    4. Close the console.
    5. On a machine you wish to control, install the software but untick the "Master" option.
    6. Open the management console and click on "Authentication" -> "Launch key file assistant" -> "Next" -> "Import public key" -> select "Administrator" -> Next -> Browse to where you have stored the public key -> Next -> Finish.
    7. Click "Manage permissions" and add your user account to the permissions list.
    8. Close the console.
    9. Now return to the master machine, on the left hand side of the screen click "Classroom manager" and add a classroom, then add the name/IP of the machine you want to control, then click on the machine in the list and it should pop up in the main screen.

To roll this out on a bigger scale you can export the settings from the first client you setup and install on other machines with the commandline "setup<your_export_filename>.xml"
Edit: I haven't actually tried installing with the settings file, I assume that you would have to also copy the public key across in the right folder.
