I've been tasked with setting up RemoteApp on Server 2008 R2. I've never done this before so i'm after a few answers. In the end i'd like the users to have an MSI installer that will create the link to the RemoteApp (These users will be both offsite and onsite). I'm not that fussed about them logging into web page to access apps (sorry cant remember what its called).
What ports would i need to open? i know it's just 443 for using the RD Web Access (huzzah i remembered!) but would it be the same if i were planning on using the MSI installers?

You are correct that the rd web access page uses port 443 but unless you introduce an rd gateway, the communication to the terminal server will be over port 3389.
If you have the ability to! I would thoroughly recommend installing a Server 2012 environment. There has been many changes with the release of 2012 and the install process has been made easier, as well as the performance of the terminal servers
