    Automated Server Shutdown

    All
I have an interesting problem that I thought I had solved, but after a couple of test runs, it turns out I haven't.
So here is my problem any ideas on a solution would greatly be received.

    - I have a 3 node MS cluster, supporting 15 vm's
    - 1 APC UPS supporting the 3 node MS cluster and APC's Network Shutdown software

In the event of a shutdown event I would like to shutdown the vm's before the hosts.
I have tried writing a script that gets fired when the host system log records a 1074 ID (Shutdown Request from "shutdown.exe -f -s -t 00"). However, this script gets ignored or gets bypassed as the server performs an automated shutdown. This then leads to the vm's within the cluster either being in a failed or critical state.

As I said any ideas on how to get the vm's to close first would be greatly appreciated.

Have you got the latest version of the network shutdown software? It has an option for hyper-v installations and then after than you can choose to shutdown or migrate the VMs.

Once the shutdown.exe has started with the -f and a -t of 0 you will find it a little hard to strike up a task to shutdown the hosted VMs as the OS is killing the PIDs! change the way the shutdown command is run and give your host sometime to shutdown the VMs gracfully with a script or with the hyper v tools.

Is it connected to USB port ? Can you add USB controller to each guest and load the software on each guest like you would do if it wasn't virtual ?

You can use these settings can't you?

Or instead of getting the APC to shutdown get it to run a script first.
