Setting folder security and share permissions automatically
We currently use a piece of software Autoshare on our 2003 server to set the folder share and security permission automatically. When we add the folder to the server (via script) Autoshare comes along and sets the share properties and ntfs permissions automatically. I want to upgrade our file servers to 2008 or 2012 but Autoshare is no longer supported. What other solutions are there available for this?

Could you not just add to your script so it not only create the folders but also applies the appropriate permissions on them. I suspect you need to use an application like icacls.exe to set the permissions however, depending on what script language you're using.

I've decided to stick to using my Kix script for 2k8R2 and it should be fine for 2012 too.
I'm rewriting it to use ldap + I did use xcacls. Looking at icacls / cacls for permissions now though.
