    Volume Shadow Copy

Isnt something I have used before and always maintained regular backups. However I think this is somehting I should be using, for those files that are modified in between backup windows.

How much free disk space does it require?

    Do you mean shadow copies?
They are "Copy on change". You can only have 64 snapshot, and the total space allowed is configurable. On our busy file server we could get back about 20% of the volume if we deleted the snapshots.
