to delete each local user profile on logoff or something?

Hello all.

I am responsible for supporting 200+ PC users, all of which are using Windows XP Pro machines in a server 2003-based network. Most of the machines are used by different users every day, meaning that several hundred local profiles build up over time, filling up the hard drive. We do not use roaming profiles for these users.

Is there any way of employing a policy (preferably Group rather than Local) to delete each local user profile on logoff or something? This would save me manually deleting these profiles periodically! I always keep the Default User, All Users, and the admin profiles, just delete the users' ones.

i second delprof2 on startup

Add users to Domain Guests - it'll automatically remove the profile when they logout.

There is a GPO setting to delete profiles at logoff, but in practice it tends to leave lots of typically empty profile folders behind. I imagine XP cleans up the profile but some sluggish/irksome app or other stops it cleaning up properly.

Another vote for delprof2 @ computer startup.

The GPO only works for Roaming profiles, which the OP isn't using...

Oh, sorry misssed that.. but do you not get the same kind of issue (imperfect deletion) with that Guest User profile deletion?

I thought Delprof2 was for windows 7? I have delprof running on my XP machines and it works a treat

As above, delprof2 which is newer and better than delprof plus will work if you end up upgrading to Windows 7.

Yes you can use the original delprof on xp but delprof2 which is a completely different product has more options and works on xp as well as 7 etc...

Using batch to delprof with /f parameter here works a treat, set it at shutdown so its not ran too often, long as it clears some and stops a large buildup! Careful when you first run it as you may have hundreds of local profiles built up and the script will take a long time to run in this case
