hey ppl, I'm preparing my Win2003 forest/domain network to install a Win2008 dc. I ran ADPREP /FORESTPREP and ADPREP /DOMAINPREP. All ran successfully. I ran this command..C:\>repadmin /showobjmeta <NAME OF DC HERE> "CN=Domain Controllers,DC=<DOMAIN>, DC=local" > C:\CheckUpdate.txt to see if forestprep and domainprep successfully replicated to all Domain controllers. When I open the txt file it's telling me this error..
DsReplicaGetInfo() failed with status 8439 (0x20f7):
The distinguished name specified for this replication operation is invalid.
I didn't get any errors when I ran the FORESTPREP and DOMAINPREP commands. Is there another way of checking if all the changes were replicated to all DCs?
From your 2003 PDC, you need to insert the 2008 R2 disc and run these commands:
Then navigate to:
Here the schema version will be displayed. For 2008 R2, it should read 47. You're then ready to introduce a new 2008 R2 DC to your domain.
thanks for the reply. my schema version reads 44 which is Windows Server 2008 RTM with all Service packs. do I need to reboot the server for the registry to update?
I can confirm no reboot is required with 2003 or 2008. Are your FSMO roles split over multiple servers?
Schema 44 is correct for 2008. It sounds like the upgrade was successful but replicating across your other DCs is failing. I've not had problems updating the schema or replicating problems.
Do you have any Windows 2000 DCs? The domain functional level needs to be 2003 or better to introduce a 2008 DC to your domain. You cannot have a 2000/2003/2008 DC in the same domain. Only 2003/2008.
