So this time the test runs and passes but the actual backup fails with
Ive tried their steps to resolve the issue for BE10, including creating the sis common store folders in the root of the drives and checked the security that BE runs with.Quote:

What are you backing up (server/versions) and what version of BE is it?

Which version of BE are you running?
have you tried rebooting the server and checking the services to see if they are all working correctly.
Also check to see which user is the BE is using as the backup account.
Im backing up how directories and MIS data on Server 2003 to a NAS box using BE 10 rev. 5484, its always worked in the past just now its decided it has issues :p

Have you been on the Symantec site for any hotfixes or technical support or do you not have any?
Yeh, Ive tried their suggested hotfixes etc and im coming up short. Ive deleted the device and media and tried again and its still happening.
I have checked the backup account and its the logon account and it passes the tests for the backup job and the test run.
The exact error is -

Nearly all errors I've had with BE were fixed by a full restart of both the backup server and the server being backed up.

Which led me to this:
Symantec Backup Exec (tm) 10d rev. 5629 for Windows Servers Installation Files
But you may have done this already ;)
As I have already suggested a reboot usually does the trick ;)

Also found this but you have probably gone through this already:
"Directory or File was not found, or could not be accessed" (a00084af HEX or e00084af HEX) is reported when a backup job using the Advanced Open File Option fails.
