No Logon for domain users

Hi,

This is a real newbie question but we all have to start somewhere right, just started MSCE and having a play around i thought id build a virtual test network,

Basicly ive a DC running win2k3 and ive just added a computer to the domain winxp sp3 but i can still only log on using the local user, and not any of the domain users is there something ive missed after adding the domain to the domain that i need to do

This might be silly but have you selected the domain in the dropdown list of 'log on to'?

Yeah ive selected the domain, its diffinately become apart of the domain as its listed in AD and in properties of computer its listed as part of my domain

A couple of things to try

Check the Event Viewer of the client machine for errors.
When your logged in locally can you ping the DC and can you browse to any of its shares?
Where in Active Directory is the client machine, have you created an OU for it or is it in the default location?

Big killer in AD is incorrectly configured DNS. Make sure this is all spot on!

Created some user accounts in AD?
Can the Virtual machines talk to each other? (In Virtual PC use "Local Only" mode to test)
Are your times set correctly on both server and workstation?

Yeah, i can ping the dc and ill try and browse the shares when i get home although ntfs permissions shouldnt let me as the local user isnt part of the domain users group

I have about 20 users created before i added the workstation and have tired most of them, the virtual machines are talking to each other, as the DC is also DHCP server and the machine is in its scope and assiging it an ip address.

As for times, i think they arent the same!

Hi

Probably a stupid question, but are the keyboard settings the same on the server and the client? The reason I ask is if you use the password 'P@ssw0rd', or something similar, and the server is in US format, pressing the same keys on a UK keyboard would output 'P"ssw0rd'.

I checked event viewer and there was nothing, , can ping the dc, and i can see the shares.

Both times and keyboard are the same for client and server, so that leaves me with dns, which is something i dont have much experience at all with yet, so this test network is really doing me some good, i just need to know where to start with configuring the client dns and how to match it up with the dc?
