Hi all I hope some of you guys can give me some advice on a GPO issue that I am having because I have had to come in on a Sat morning to try and get it sorted
I have recently inherited a network with Server 2003 r2 and XP Pro SP3 workstations. The problem is that students cannot view video or flash content on the web. In place of the flash content we are recieving the following message on the screen:
I have made sure that the client PCs have the latest version of adoble flash player, shockwave and java installed with all the latest updates.
When I log on as a staff user, domain admin or local admin all web content can be viewed, but as soon as a student logs on they cannot view the flash content.
There are separate GPOs for Staff and Students and I have compared the settings in the 2 GPOs and relaxed the Students GPO as much as possible and allowed all java scripting options, but the restrictions are still there when a student logs on.
Maybe I have missed something simple here though, so could someone possibly point me in the right direction?:)
Just off the top of my head things you could look at:
Do a GPO update/force on a workstation.
Check what is actually being sent to the workstation for the student - erm can't just remember what the command is for checking GPO received.
Clear any local profiles on the workstation.
Event viewer might give an indication of what is or is not happening?
If I think of anything else I'll come back.
You can also use gpresult on the workstation to see what policies are being applied or ignored and compare them on the student vs the teacher profiles.
If you think the student and staff GPO's are similar then I would look into profile issues. Do students and staff receive a different profile? If so give a test student a staff profile and see if the problem still exists.
