WSUS update storage
2 problems here.
1. I have just configured WSUS to work on the server and in the computers section there is a list of the schoos computers as expected, but only 6-7 have reported in. The rest just say 'not yet reported'
2. My biggest worry, problem no. 2, is that any downloads i approve are being downloaded to the servers c: drive. this is now running dangerously low on disk space. How do i configure WSUS to store the downloads on another local hard drive?
any help appreciated.
1) It takes a while - give it a few days for them to report in. If some are still not reporting in, stop the windows updates service:
and delete the reg key here:
then restart windows updates and force it to redetect.
REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientId /f
If you're prepping a computer image for deployment, don't restart windows updates or reset the authorisation. Instead, also delete the following reg keys:
net start wuauserv
wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
Sysprep and NewSid don't (iirc) reset the susclientid, hence why some imaged machines won't report in.
REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v AccountDomainSid /f
REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v PingID /f
Check the options first.
wsusutil movecontent $DriverLetter:\NEWLOCATION C:\nameoflogfile.log
Thanks Pete, do you have any idea about the 2nd problem???
