Install Win2k3 on Intel Server without Floppy
Thought I'd share this gotcha with folks as it took me about 5 hours to suss out what I was doing wrong and get things up and running.
Brand spanking new server with no floppy drive and no connector for one.
-Using the Server deployment kit fails on one particular file every time
-slipstreaming in the software txtmode driver and creating a bootable Win2k3 OS gets you so far but it keeps rebooting 10 seconds into the final first boot.
-make a note of the exact drivers that the server deployment tool is trying to incorporate into the install (it pretty much slipstreams them on to a space on the hard drive)
-locate the same drivers on the dep' tool disk and extract to individual folders somewhere
-use nlite or similar tool to slipstream in ALL of the drivers you've ID'd above and then boot with your new disk in the system.
I'm guessing the combination of using a WHQL driver instead of the "latest" one that the web based tool was original suggesting, and the other chipset, nic, etc.. drivers being included was what got it working.
Anyway, hope that makes sense for someone who finds themselves in a world of server pain.
