    Deleting Files on Server

As a house keeping task I have recently backed up the 2006 (old year 11's) student My Documents and was trying to remove them form the server but certain usernames and specific files will not delete producing the error the file does not exist although they do show in the folder. This is starting to be quite annoying as it is preventing me from removing the 2006 year group folder. Does anyone know of another way of deleting files/folders which would circumvent this error.

File Server is running Server 2003 R2.

Try taking ownership of the files and then delete.

Deleting via a unc path works on awkward files as well.

Go through everything in this KB article.

You cannot delete a file or a folder on an NTFS file system volume

@FN-GM. It's probably not a good idea to link to Download.com any more since they bundle adware with every download now.

+1 to unlocker - had a similar issue when moving student home drives to a new DAS unit on our XenServer over the Summer Break. It always seemed to be the files generated by Dreamweaver in their Application Data folder that caused the issues. Took ages to eventually get everything deleted.
