    User Names

    Morning all,

Just wondered what you used for student and staff user names?

We currently use the year they enrolled then the school initials then their admin no. I'm thinking of simplifying somehow but don't know how.

For staff its just surname and initial for windows login and sims.

    Any ideas welcome.

    Cheers

    First 3 letters of firstname
    First 3 letters of surname
Year they will leave the school in...

    So for example..

Joe Bloggs in Year 7 (leaving 2014) would be....

    JoeBlo2014

Teachers have the same format but without any leaving year

Students are year of administration then surname and then first initial so for example john smith would be 02smithj and staff are first initial then surname

I think there are a couple of threads about this so if you search the forums you might get some more answers!
    Here's one:

Currently its a bit of a mix.

The new format we have is:

    Students
The year they Join followed by their surname and first initial (09bloggsf)

    [B]Staff[B]
    firsstname . Surname (m.bloggs)

We use to use the same format for both students and teachers. Surname and first initial but we had incidents where students would end up getting the same username as staff. For obvious reasons we changed the format asap.

The year they leave,lastname,1st intial. 12BloggsF then they keep the same username when they move up to the High School. The spreadsheet looks for duplications and we manually alter one. Not that we have had any yet.

year of entry so current year 6 is 0 first initial first 5 or surname for pupils usually so 3fblogg though some schools have started with 3fred or in case of 2 freds 3fredb

teachers vary a lot stafffb/fbloggs/staffblogg/staffbloggs depends on school

    We changed our last summer.

For students we now use their six digit date of birth followed by their initials. For staff we use the very basic first initial surname.

    firstinitialsurname

    Joe Bloggs =jbloggs

If there is an instance where 2 people share the same first initial and surname, it is differentiated by the middle initials. IF that too is similar, then a number at the end.

Only in 1 instance in 4 years has it looked like this

    JABloggs1
    JABloggs2

Full first name & full surname. AD is sectioned into year of entry.

I run the same format as Nephilim, everyone elses seems overly complicated, kids struggle to remember basic passwords let alone complex usernames.

J Smith = jsmith, AD in year of entry.

We've just changed ours so that students have the following format:

[year of y7 entry][Initials from all first and middle names][surname]
So James Andrew Blogs who started year 7 in 2009 would be 09jablogs whereas Harry Liam Smith who joined year 8 in 2009 would be 08hlsmith.

Staff is a mix of two formats. The majority are [salutation][surname][firstinitial] where as some of the admin staff are [firstinitial][surname]. So Mr A Smith is mrsmitha and Dr J Blogs is drblogsj.

our format works for us as I know pupils by year group. They are seperated into year groups in AD so life is much easier!
