These are the instructions I have.

Powershell commands to restrict maximum recipients

    1. Log on to the Exchange server and from the Start menu choose Programs, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and then Exchange Management Shell .
    2. Now type the following two lines (based on the information below):
      $group = Get-Group 'XYZ'
      $group.Members | get-mailbox | set-mailbox -recipientlimits 10

This will find all users that are a member of the XYZ group and who have an Exchange mailbox, then sets the Maximum Recipient limit to ten. Obviously, you can change the name of the group and number of maximum recipients to suit.
    3. You can then automate this by using Scheduled Task on the Exchange server to run a command as follows:
      C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powersh ell.exe -PSConsoleFile "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Exchange Server\bin\exshell.psc1" -command ". 'C:\PS1files\XYZMaxLimit.ps1'"

The last part refers to the path and file name of a *.ps1 file which would contain the two command shell lines from above. With this scheduled via Scheduled Tasks, it will run regularly to reset the value against new mailbox users who become members of the XYZ group, when new users/mailboxes are created.
