    2K3 Member Server Permissions Problem

I must be missing something. Domain currently had 2 DCs and I have now added a 3rd W2K3 box as a member server for extra storage. Have joined the Domain but the problem I have is that when trying to set share permissions the new server wont list the built-in domain groups. EG DOMAIN\Users, all I get is SERVERNAME\Users

    So what am I missing?

Logged onto the new box with a domain account?
Does it show up in AD?
    Rebooted since joining it?

Right rebooted and still the same.

Also noticed that a staff account can access the server from a domain computer, but not from their standalone laptop. They can access the other servers from their laptop with no problems.

There is a "look in" box at the top of the screen when you add permissions to folders, does it list your domain as where you are looking for account or does it list the local server

It's looking in domain.local - Also I have noticef that non domain PCs need to enter DOMAIN/USERNAME to access shares where on the other 2 servers they just need to USERNAME.

I want to have to amke it a DC but is there anyway around it?

If you haven't already, make a copy of an existing domain administrator account and call it whatever you like for your third server logon.

I'd also setup a static IP configuration and point DNS to your PDC, BDC, then any external.

Done all that. I can add all other domain groups eg staff / students. I have also check and domain users is a menber of the local user group of the new member server.

The main issue now is with laptops needing to enter domain/username. The laptops are setup as such that the local account matches their domain account. This works fine for others servers. Just this new one wont authenticate access to shares without using DOMAIN/USERNAME.

Are your servers running the same version of 2003 Server and same Service Pack? What about R2?

All servers are 2K3 R2 and it would seem the domain functional level is currently 2000 mixed
