    Free Server Programs

    HI All

Just wondering if anyone knows of any good free server software. I am looking for programs like classroom monitoring software, so teachers can block the scrrens of other users. And any other programs which monitor the users

    any help would be great

There was lanview but its been discontinued. there is an opensource option in iTalc which looks good.

alternatively ABTutor is fairly cheap and very good.

AB Tutor Control - classroom management software for schools
iTALC - Free open Source i believe.

Lanview was great also and we still use it but i believe it is now closed. Someone may be able to get you a copy from the forum but it is mainly used for techies to monitor the machines on the network.

If you want this for teachers then a commercial package or ITALC might be your best bet.

    Another +1 for AB Tutor.

Only recently got this after years of NetOp and iTalc.

NetOp = good features. ok to setup. fairly unreliable. expensive

iTalc = basic features. bit of work to setup (pass keys). only as reliable as the info in you dns server (if machines have dhcp IPs). no updates since may - 2008. free

AB Tutor = good features. easy setup. totally reliable. ok price.

I used Kaboodle for a while with the teaching staff - you can arrange pc's into rooms in a graphical format. They can then VNC in by clicking on the picture. Some found it useful for keeping an eye on the 'trouble makers'.
